Oh my gosh. WE HAVE A TRIPLE CROWN WINNER!!!!!!!!

I have been waiting my ENTIRE LIFE since I fell in love with horses at age 7 for this to happen. I did not think it would ever be done again. I had stopped even hoping, so I of course was not watching live, but IT HAPPENED. This is HUGE, people, and yet no one in the pop culture places I frequent seems to be talking about it. This is so much more significant than Americans winning gold medals at the Olympics. Many, many times more relevant than whoever wins/plays in the Super Bowl. This is a rare, rare thing that has not happened in 37 years/has only happened a dozen times in almost 150 years.

IT IS AMAZING. SOMEONE SHRIEK FOR JOY WITH ME. (Preferably while confirming that you understand why we are shrieking, but I'll take what I can get.)

Trust me, I am ecstatic about this. Particularly since there have been about a dozen or so colts in recent years who have managed to win the Derby and the Preakness, only to be thwarted in the Belmont.

As a matter of fact, there has been one trainer who has proven to be a rather odious individual. When he lost in the Derby, he would take great pleasure in playing the role of spoiler -- pulling his horses out of the Preakness so that they would have a better chance at winning the Belmont.

I know how big a thing this is. Remember where I live?

Haha, sorry, yes I do! I'm still kind of in a euphoric daze. And it's possible you are more on top of this than I am, since I was not aware of that jerk trainer.

I'm not what you would call a big horse racing fan, but I sort of pay attention every year to the Triple Crown. Kind of hard not to; right after Derby Day, the big question being constantly asked is, "What are [insert Derby winner's name here]'s chances in the Preakness?" Or some variation. To be fair, the Derby winner is usually considered the favorite in the Preakness.

And if the Derby winner does win the Preakness, the excitement gets ramped up another notch. Now, the question becomes, "Will this be the year we finally get a Triple Crown winner?"

Now, I would love to see another Affirmed/Alydar, but the odds of that happening are probably astronomical.
