Excitement of the Day:

Discovering that we own Rowling's two supplementary books to the Harry Potter series, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Quidditch Through the Ages.  I completely forgot that when my brother went through his Harry Potter obsession (which, like most of his other obsessions, lasted one year and then completely vanished), Mom bought those for him for Christmas.  Found 'em squished into the far end of the bookshelf this morning, and gleefully proceeded to devour them.  I can't believe I never read these in full before.

Admittedly, they could do without the quasi-meta "notes from Dumbledore" forewards, which make it slightly too surreal for my brain to take in (couldn't Rowling just have had her OWN note explaining Comic Relief U.K., instead of trying to claim these to be mass-produced copies of, respectively, one of Harry's books and one of the Hogwarts library books?  Does that mean the Harry Potter series exists in Harry's world, too?  And wouldn't that contradict the other claim in the foreward, that all the events described herein are totally fictional, as far as Muggles need be concerned, and in no way real??  *HEAD --> SPLODEY*).

Nevertheless!  For being such flimsy thin paperbacks they contain a good deal of information and are vastly entertaining; their only fault is that there aren't more of them.  You know, forget trying to convince Rowling to write further sequels, or prequels (which, fortunately, I believe she has no plans to make) - what she needs to do, at some point in her life, is create encyclopedic references containing all the information she's imagined as backstory that never made it into the books, and/or new things she thinks up while compiling such information, whether on the characters themselves or the wizarding world in general.  I imagine it would be the greatest thing ever.  I also imagine I will be vastly disappointed when this never comes to fruition.

Topic 2: House spoilers

It's official: Replacements are being sought for Foreman, Chase and Cameron! Producers will be introducing four new underlings - two male, two female - at the start of the new season.

DUDE.  *stares in shock* Ausiello, are you jerking me around?  If you are, I'll kill you in your sleep.   If not, I'm going to run around the neighborhood flailing hysterically.  Eeeeeeeh replacements woo-HOO!!

Does that mean the Harry Potter series exists in Harry's world, too? I would think that there is a definitely a "HP series" in the Potterverse. I mean it seems likely that someone would have written something about the Boy who lived. Maybe not the exact same thing as JKR's series, but... blech, brain hurts too much to think about this in any more detail than that. *pulls self up out of the rabbit hole*

You should be hopeful, then, as she has publicly discussed doing just that for charity. :-)

And... seriously with the House stuff? Permanent replacements??? Wow. I have a House/Cameron shipper friend who is NOT going to be pleased. :-P

Has she really? Excellent. I don't pay any attention to HP-related news except during the 3 months or so before a new book is released, but as long as there's some potential, I'm glad.

...Wow, I hadn't even noticed how wierd that got. Wow. Head hurting now. Must stop thinking about it.

I think the companion piece I'd most like to see is a spell encyclopedia - every spell used in the books, what it does, and where it comes from. It's be an excellent resource for fic-writers if nothing else. (It'd also probably be huge, but I'm ignoring that part.)

Regarding the spoilers: Aw, but I'll miss Chase and his pretty pretty hair. And 4man and...well, calling him 4man. I mean, I'll still watch the show so long as House, Wilson, and Cuddy are in it, but still. Who am I going to lovingly refer to as Wombat if Chase isn't there?

A spell encyclopedia does sound neat, although when I stop to think about the sheer number of spells there must be in the wizarding world, it suddenly sounds much less feasible. So...yes, I'll just ignore that part too.

Who am I going to lovingly refer to as Wombat if Chase isn't there?
Wombat, eh? Can't say I've ever used that one myself. Although...come to think of it, what am I going to complain about now that Cameron's gone and taken her inappropriate relationships with her? Suddenly I feel hollow. (That being said, I desperately hope they don't cast a Cameron 2.0)

I'm sure there'll be something to grumble about, because they've got one more potential contributor to the drama this time around, but whatever it is it can't possibly be as much fun to complain about as Chameron/Chouse. I almost miss them already.
