Quality Data Project: DVD Edition

I thought it might help me sort through my books if I sorted out all the DVDs and put them in their own section. Which made me realize I'd never actually inventoried or even counted how many DVDs I own, and that maybe it might be good to determine exactly which ones I have before I start buying duplicates. So. Accounting only for DVDs, and not the many stupid VHS movies I still have because I'm Just That Afraid they'll end up being my only copy if I don't get an upgrade first...this is what I own.

What I have learned: I can defend every single movie on this list as Excellent Quality, 100% Would Watch Again Today. Yes even the Twilight.

TV shows...I'm pretty sure 60% of them have never been taken out of their package. BUT. If I don't have them, then I will definitely develop random needs to have the episodes at my fingertips, and then beyond the immediate frustration, it becomes a drawn-out fight with other library patrons to get my hands on them, if the library even has it in the first place AND doesn't purge it; weekly renewals have to happen, etc. Source: my library-obsessed life for the past 7 years.

(*do I need season 1 of Bones, I wonder? When I bought it I was still watching the show and was going to go back one day and see the season I'd never watched, but honestly, my interest in this show is dead and there are only a few specific shipper scenes I want access to)
(edit: WTF THIS DVD IS LITERALLY BRAND NEW / SEALED IN PLASTIC. Okay. There's gotta be a way I can sell this, right?)

Funny thing is, this list is wonderfully remniscient of the Dream Library list of DVDs I wrote up somewhere around 2005, when I owned zero shows on DVD because they retailed at like $80 new, and I was limited to whatever I managed to tape episode-by-episode off my somewhat fuzzy antenna TV. I used to think how great it would be if I had a room with everything I ever wanted to watch at my fingertips.

And while I still have that dream, of residing in a mansion where I have eternal access to literally the entire collection of every show I've ever watched and also all the ones that look interesting*...the collection I've got is pretty comforting. That is a lot of good TV that will not be lost to the whims of local syndication managers or fussy streaming rights.

*I know you think I'm describing Netflix/Amazon/Hulu (separately or together as a triple threat), and to some extent I am, but if you read a little farther you'll come to the phrase "fussy streaming rights."
