Me: I would like to read something plausibly reflective of Ryan and Lindsay's relationship in a YA novel please.
Goodreads: Did You Mean: Circle the Soul Softly by Davida Wills Hurwin

An elite school. Glamorous students who have fancy cars and mansions for homes (and all the haughty attitude to go with it). This is Katie O'Connor's fabulous new life since her family's recent move to Brentwood –– a perfect opportunity for a fresh start, at least in theory.

I'm listening...

The only time she can overlook the hostility of her classmates is when they share the stage for plays. Onstage, directed by her awesome drama teacher, Tess, she has the confidence and talent that she cannot seem to muster in her everyday life.

First of all I just want to say that I am always here for awesome teachers, and also Ryan did musicals once, which is relevant to the next part.

And it doesn't hurt that one of Katie's fellow actors is smart and cute and interested in her.

And there we go. Sold. ILL request in and processing as we speak.

(yeah, yeah, I see that there's also a super dark undercurrent to Katie's past, but that is really not ever a deterrent to me. Besides which, any approximation would need a fresh plot point to wrap itself around eventually, because "the biggest obstacle to our relationship is that my dad is also your foster mom's dad and he's a rich jerk who doesn't want me" is not only super unlikely, it's pretty terrible and anything is better than it. This plot obstacle works as well as any other. I have considered many possible disappointment scenarios and I think I'm prepared for any of them, unless the characterization is too flat.)
(edit: did not account for a sibling, specifically a jerk older brother! but that's okay. still made it work.)
