- Call for haircut appt.
- Ask parents what, if any, input I should have on Chris' outfit for the wedding
- Dump my excess books in Little Free Libraries
- Crush grocery bag's worth of cans for future transport to recycling center
- Fill out apartment application
[EDIT: I did none of those things. I took a 2-mile walk, was thwarted at every LFL on my route by people obnoxiously standing near and/or directly facing the box (so I felt too self-conscious) or else by the boxes being completely filled, and took one look at the application and was overwhelmed by a bone-weary need to sleep for 16 of the next 24 hours]
Meanwhile, in hopes that moving* will convince me to do what I haven't fully done for 2 years now, I've been trying to clean out my room. I did successfully move 2 boxes into the attic, but since I haven't opened the attic for a year I forgot how G.D. MANY BOXES OF BOOKS ARE ALREADY IN THERE.
It is so many mcfreakin' books. On the bright side, I was able to pull out a few I know I no longer want/need to donate. And I found some childhood faves I KNEW I had and just couldn't find (at least 2 of which I had to get via interlibrary loan as a result). Plus a handful of books I didn't even remember I had, including 2 Fear Street books I don't even remember reading so I guess I need to update yesterday's post.
On the downside, IT'S SO MCFREAKIN' MANY BOOKS.
*I'm calling it "moving" rather than "moving out" because I expect to leave almost as much of my stuff here -- for safekeeping, in my homebase -- as I did when packing up for college. Ideally I will not empty this room until I have my own house to move it all into.
But I am really excited to have reunited with the following faves:
Mary Jane by Dorothy Sterling
Baby-Sitting Is A Dangerous Job
Blue Willow by Doris Gates
Number the Stars
Mary Anne and the Memory Garden (one of the few BSC books I owned/bought new, #93)
Still More Tales for the Midnight Hour (which I was REALLY sad I couldn't reread last Halloween)
AND this one very exciting book from Scholastic book orders that I knew I had but had wrongly assumed was the more popular Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark: Scary Stories for Stormy Nights. The illustrations in this one are still creepy, but not as gross as SSTD, which I remember I got from the library but never liked as much as the scary story collections I owned. I had forgotten every story in this one except the giant queen mosquito, but I am SO DARN HAPPY it's back in my hands. They're all coming back to me, and OMG, the ghost slave children ship....jesus. That's unsettling even now.
