dance

This is a day of triumph. And capslock.

Yes, I already used up my free Audible.com trial membership before I realized it was an amazing thing, and just thought it was a novelty freebie.

BUT. I HAVE A MOTHER.

WHO HAS NOT USED HER FREE TRIAL.

AND WHO VERY GRACIOUSLY JUST USED HER CARD INFO TO GET ME A FREE AUDIO COPY OF LAND OF STORIES.

All cued up on the player now. Soon my ears will be bathed in heaven.

But not really because the desire to own a shiny new hardcover and read it in that form first will not go away, yet since my brother doesn't have Amazon Prime anymore I have to lie in wait and shop around to find a price low enough to balance out shipping charges.

(Man, this business of wanting brand-new books is agonizing. I don't know how you live with yourselves wanting or even actually purchasing new books on a regular basis, knowing the kind of inflation rate you are paying versus waiting a few months. I mean, I'm glad you keep the book industry alive for people like me and all, but yeesh)

In other news, a poor little bird got stuck on the porch today and was fluttering itself into a frenzy at the windows in the corner of the wrong end. It was so focused on escape that I got close enough to touch it. Luckily, once I opened the door all the way it only took about 3 seconds of shooing it in that direction before it found the open path and shot back outside. Not as heroic as rescuing a beached stingray, but I like to think I've done my part for nature today.
Ryan's List

Notice I have hired Ryan "Devil Beard" Howard to moderate this post.

FRIENDS LIST, I HAVE AN IMPORTANT POLL FOR YOU.

So, everybody else has a few hundred books on their GoodReads accounts, and I am still in double digits and feel left behind. Plus it keeps recommending books for me that I have already read. I could add up to 10 years' worth of reading lists because I have exact dates for them all. Buuuut...that is literally over a thousand books, not counting childhood classics. I'm afraid to start.

Poll #1854719 GoodReads!

Should I start adding books from my pre-2012 reading lists to GR?

Yes! The more the merrier.
8(100.0%)
How about just the ones you feel strongly about?
0(0.0%)
Nah, keep it streamlined - only add books as you read them.
0(0.0%)

What about other favorites I may have read before age 14?

Why not?
6(100.0%)
Depends. I will discuss in a comment.
0(0.0%)
What did I say about keeping it streamlined?
0(0.0%)

Would (or have) you ever add(ed) older books you've read?

Yes
4(80.0%)
No, only as I read them
1(20.0%)

VOTE OR I WILL BAN YOU.

YOU HAVE NO WAY OF KNOWING WHETHER I AM KIDDING OR NOT.

[Edit: I'm kidding. I'm actually in a really good mood, as talking about books tends to do that for me, but I do appreciate your participation.]
