News & Letters

Good News: KERI NOBLE'S BACK!!  She's here again on campus next Wednesday!  By God, come hell or high water, we are going to see her this time.  And it will be fantastic.

Less Good News: Oh my God, I did it again.  I couldn't stomach the syrupy aftertaste of Pepsi anymore, so I went to the campus deli to buy an individual bottle of Diet Pepsi, and I managed to grab a regular one.  %(*#&%)(*#&%#!!  Apparently I can no longer distinguish between dark and light blue labels?

Dear Weather: I'm ready for you to start being cold again in a permanent-type fashion.  I'm sick of walking through giant clouds of gnats, with huge grasshoppers flying out like ambushing geurillas and wasps and hornets dive bombing me everywhere I go.  FREEZE, DAMN IT.  FREEZE AND KILL THEM ALL.

An Open Letter: *sighs* Can I just hire someone to go icon-hunting for me?  It always seems like it will be a fun prospect, but then I quickly get so bored and frustrated by the fact that I don't know where to look and/or none of them look perfect enough that I get frustrated and quit, like when I was younger and shopping for clothes.

Because, I'm planning to go the 1-year automatic-billing route when I get a paid account, and it seems like it would be simplest to add the 100 userpics option at the same time, but my goal is to have at least 25 icons that I really want to use before I do that.  And I still don't have that many.

I have icons saved, maybe all of 3 dozen that I'm not using, but this icon frugality is like, burned into my brain.  Like right now, I was on Xanga looking at random icons, and I fell in love with a whole bunch of scenic pictures.  I saved 6 or 7 because they're so pretty, even though I have no idea what occasion I would have to use a scenic picture, so I probably won't use any.  Further problems:

1) Given the frequency with which I reread old posts, I hate seeing the default one show up where it didn't used to.  So therefore, any icons I add have to be ones that will last for approximately ever.

2) And given how many fandoms I have, it currently seems wasteful to use more than one per fandom.  Even if we only included the currently-airing TV shows, that's a good 25 right there.

(although Doctor Who probably merits 2, since I mention it all the time, and I'm so sick of the one I have that it just makes me ANNOYED to look at it, all boring and stupid and having long since lost whatever allure it had for me at the time - they're not even touching; what's wrong with this picture?! - and yet I can't delete it because of reason #1)

3) Furthermore, I prefer that all my icons be able to pull multiple duties.  This one, for example, the dog and cat?  It covers anything having to do with animals, as well as sweetness (i.e. offering hugs) and cute things in general.  So.  That's when I get really, really picky about icons not being "perfect" enough.
In conclusion: everyone else somehow winds up with millions of icons saved on their computer, and/or are always bemoaning their lack of icon spaces...why is it so difficult for me to just accept it as a fun thing and go crazy?!  *wistful sigh* Can I just send someone else out to go gather a bunch of icons I might like, and present them to me in one easy-access folder?

I'm one of the icon people with billions of icons saved in my computer. Ha. I just like so many! And what kinds of icons are you looking for? Like coloring or weird face closeups or whatever? If you can tell me that I may be able to help with the DW ones, I don't mind hunting at all.

Lol...I appreciate the offer, but sadly I don't think it's a task I can outsource. My brain's concept of taste is so varied I don't even know what I want until I'm looking at it.

Although...if there's one that has both the Doctor & Rose's faces in it, like one of those diagonal slash things? That'd nice. And I am very fond in general of icons that have the tiny writing or a particular word on them.

I have a lot of icons saved on my computer, too. I admit it: I'm an addict! LOL. I know what you mean, though, about wanting all of your icons to have a purpose. I got some of my text icons because I didn't really have any for less-than-pleasant posts, and they often sum up my emotions best anyway.

Oh, and just speaking from personal experience, I wouldn't go for the automatic payment if I were you. I signed up for it last year, but then this year, when it should've taken my money, something went wrong, and it didn't go through. I still had to pay for it manually. I just hate to see that happen to someone else.

LOL, that one's hilarious. Yeah, I think if I gave in to all my text-icon temptations, I could probably speed up the process...but then I figure the icon is about the only time I add visual imagery around here. :D

...you are harshing my squee, ma'am. Much of my joy over the paid account thing is that for barely more than the cost of a grocery trip, I'm set up for a year. And I only get that special fantastic pricing with the 1-yaer automated payments. With income as erratic as mine, being able to write it off in a smallish lump sum and then not think about it for a while was really a huge point in its favor.
