My birthday celebration consisted of the same thing it's been for most of my life, sitting around the table with my family with dinner of my choice (home-made enhanced chili tonight), followed by cake and the opening of presents. Cake was Boston Creme style, very tasty. And I received a small wardrobe; 2 shirts and 3 pairs of pants. One shirt is beautiful, slate blue long-sleeve tee with rhinestones and abstract designs on the front; the other was a short-sleeve plaid blouse. It has been suggested that at some point in my professional life I will need to learn to wear button-down shirts on a regular basis, but at the moment I strongly dislike them. And the plaid pattern didn't help matters, so that's going back.
My dad did go out looking for a good introductory drink for me, but I have to say I was sorely disappointed by its appearance. It's supposedly a German white wine, but the bottle is brown. Making the liquid look brown. Add that to all the German-style lettering and wording, and it looks like beer. Which leaves me dejected because I've been hinting for months that the only thing that's ever tempted me to try a drink have been wine coolers, with all their pretty decorations and lovely looking bottles. I'm certain I have specifically name-dropped "Arbor Mist" at least three times. Yes, I know looks don't always equal taste, but I have a feeling that it's all going to taste nasty to me anyway - I might as well go in hoping it has hint of fruity taste in addition to whatever alcohol tastes like.
Might try some of the stuff tonight anyway; have to run off to watch AI. I heard rumors of a theme involving "pop songs" and possibly GWEN STEFANI which would totally almost make up for everything else about this season so far. And then it's a new episode of House for my birthday, yay! (okay, I lied. There are in fact two lines of fandom things in this post. But that's it)
Au revoir!
[Edited to add: Yep, tried it. Took all of two sips - it tasted like cough medicine. It also had a rather pungent odor to it, not at all appealing, and in retrospect Mom thinks it is quite possibly the worst-tasting wine she's ever had. Delightful. They have promised to find something better tomorrow.
And thanks for all the happy birthday wishes. Nothing like having a birthday to kickstart the chatter. If my Facebook wall were a living being, it would have keeled over from the shock of so much traffic today.]
