On the bright side, I think I've shamed myself out of my Survivor obsession for a bit.

Or at least, the only way I'm going to get over it is by concentrating very hard on something else. Like a wonderful scripted TV show! In fewer words than you might expect.

Community, season 5 finale: Basic Story/Basic Sandwich

I watched this a while ago, so my thoughts are patchy and fleeitng, but I loved the surprise twist that saving Greendale means destroying it, via sale to Subway University. That is two delightful things at once. I also liked Jeff randomly proposing marriage to Britta. Most of the laughs came in the second half, but the "buried treasure" idea was wonderful. I enjoyed everything about that.

Also, the line, "We’ll definitely be back next year. If not, it’s because an asteroid has destroyed all of human civilization," made me go, "Ohhhh, THAT'S what the comic I reblogged ages ago on Tumblr was referring too!" I thought it was just a funny comic. (I'd link it but I can't find it. My Tumblr tag system is woeful compared to my LJ one).

All in all, it felt like a very solid series finale, and once again I would have been happy if it had been, but I'm also mostly glad it's not. (I think I'll feel the absence of Shirley, but the actress has a good reason for not coming back, and Paget Brewster might fill the hole in my heart if I can get past my rage about her having already played a memorable character.)
